Sankofa Yoga is a community where transformation happens, one mat at a time.
The concept of Sankofa is derived from the Akan people of West Africa. The Sankofa Adinkra symbol is commonly expressed as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It advises us that we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward. Symbolizing a quest for knowledge and examination, Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center honors this transformation by connecting it to the work we do within, on our mats, and in our communities.
Sankofa Yoga is a community where transformation happens, one mat at a time. It is a place where you can return to your inner self and reclaim your inner strength. Challenge your body, celebrate your spirit, and cultivate your mind. In creating such a space, community is affirmed, cultural connections are fostered, and yogis live a conscious life on & off the mat.
Founded by Tamisha and Marcus Ponder, Sankofa Yoga & Wellness Center is a space where yoga and community thrive. Located on Main Street, Laurel, the studio serves to provide members with the tools to commit to healthier and happier lifestyles while sourcing community.
