The Ypsilanti-based salon owner found that many stylists graduating from cosmetology school didn’t have the skills to work with African American customers.
The school offers a $15,000 program that trains students on the basics of hair, nail and skin care, including cutting, coloring and applying hair products, as well as manicures, pedicures, waxing and facials. Students also learn hair braiding, extension services, press and curls.
